What is a sari?

How to drape a saree?

Draping a saree is an art which once finessed can go a long way. There are more than 80 different ways to drape a saree. Every way is unique and is known for its originality. The traditional way of draping a saree is to drape it around the waist on the undergarment known as a petticoat or a silhouette with pleats and pairing it with a beautiful saree blouse leaving the midriff visible. Starting from one end and circling it around your body, making pleats and then leaving the remaining off your shoulder is the most familiar way around the world. The most important element of draping a saree is the arrangement of the pallu and the pleats. Every sari has a different and unique way of arranging the pallu and the pleats. This diversity in draping the sarees comes from the diversity of the Indian culture and various tribes, religions, and communities.

 

Fabrics

Silk saree:

silk is known as the queen of textiles in the saree kingdom. its lustre, sensuousness and glamours has women drooling over it from all around the world. The history of silk saree is approximately 4500 years old. cotton is a natural fiber that comes from the seedpod of the cotton plant. This fabric can be knit or woven. cotton comes in two main and different types of weaves, plain and twill weave. Organza saree:

Organza is extracted from the organzine material. It is a plain-woven fabric with a smooth, flat finish. It is a strong and stiff material. Originally made from silk, organza, but can also be made from polyester and nylon or all three mixed together.
